Installing Xfce In Ubuntu
Some prefer using the XFCE environment over the default Gnome environment in Ubuntu. There are philosophical reasons for some as they want to switch away from Gnome as well as as technical reasons where Gnome doesn't run as fast as one would prefer on an older machine. XFCE will be a much easier environment on a slower machine. If you already have Ubuntu installed there is a way of switching to XFCE without having to reinstall the Operating System.
One of the best ways of doing this is to open the Synaptic Package Manager and search for Xubuntu. The Xubuntu desktop is already configured to work with Ubuntu. It may be possible to install XFCE but Xubuntu-desktop would be a better choice. Once you select this, install the software. The download will take while since it has quite a bit to download and install so take a break from the computer.
When you come back after it's done, log out to restart the system. Go to the options on the login screen. You Need to select a new session. In this case select Xubuntu or XFCE to have that interface.
Another solution would be to just install Xubuntu or an XFCE distribution. If You Want to keep your same basic settings for Your Computer be sure to backup Your Home folding including the hidden files. Install Xubuntu just like you would Ubuntu then copy over your home folder files into your new system. This is a sure way of having an XFCE ready distribution without any issues or problems

How can i make my UBUNTU desktop effects work ????
I recently installed Ubuntu in my pc....all went well.... i then tried to explore the desktop effects it offers.A message box popped up asking me to enable the nvidia graphic option.. besides that it does not even play audio or video files flashing the same message ... can anyone help me to figure out what the solution would be ????
I assume by what you have described here that you have an Nvidia graphics card, in which case you need to enable the Ubuntu graphics driver, to do this follow these steps.
System>Administration>Restricted Drivers Manager.
All you need to do then is enable the graphics driver, then restart the PC.
Note this only applies to Nvidia cards.
If you have an ATI card, then it should work with the generic drivers, Compiz Fusion included.
I hope this has helped.
Good luck.
